FedCenter.gov provides environmental stewardship and compliance assistance information focused exclusively on the needs of Federal government facilities.

Interagency Task Force on Electronics Stewardship
The President charged the Task Force with developing a national strategy for electronics stewardship, with CEQ, EPA, and GSA as the leads. The Task Force has released the National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship (PDF, 559K).

Acquisition and Procurement

Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT)
EPEAT is an easy-to-use evaluation tool that allows for the comparison and selection of electronic products based on environmental attributes, in addition to cost and performance considerations. EPEAT is the required method of product environmental assessment for desktop computers, laptops, and monitors for all federal entities, including FEC Partners.

EPA's Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) Electronics Product and Service Information
EPA's EPP program provides resources to assist in the purchasing of environmentally preferable electronics, including: a list of environmental attributes to look for; procurement guidance; tools; case studies; and Web links.

ENERGY STAR®
ENERGY STAR® is a voluntary labeling program designed to identify and promote energy-efficient products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. All federal entities, including FEC Partners, are required to enable ENERGY STAR features on their computers and monitors.

Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP), Purchasing Specifications for Energy-Efficient Products
The FEMP website provides product energy efficiency recommendations; interactive energy cost calculators and other resources to help in the purchasing and use of energy-efficient products.

Northwest Product Stewardship Council's Guide to Environmentally Preferable Computer Purchasing
To encourage manufacturers to adopt product stewardship practices, the Northwest Product Stewardship Council Work Group has developed a guide to help buyers include product stewardship principles in purchasing criteria and bids.

Responsible Purchasing Network (RPN) Office Electronics Overview
This Guide provides information and recommendations on responsible use, purchasing, and disposal of printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, and multifunction devices (MFDs).

End-of-Life Management

EPA's eCycling
This site includes information about electronics waste, and recycling including statistics on the management of used and end-of-life electronics, regulations and standards for handling electronics, and resources for finding an electronics recycler.

Third Party Certification Standards for Electronics Recyclers
There are existing recycling certification programs that EPA and the FEC believe advance environmentally safe practices and include standards for use in third party certification of such efforts.

National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Guidelines for Media Sanitization (See "SP 800-88")
NIST published the Guidelines for Media Sanitization (NIST Special Publication 800-88) to assist with sanitization decision making when media require disposal, reuse, or will be leaving the effective control of an organization.

UNICOR Recycling Services
UNICOR provides environmentally sound electronic recycling services to the federal government and other organizations. UNICOR is a wholly owned government corporation whose mission is to train and employ inmates housed in Federal prisons.

U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Environmental Services Schedule
GSA's Environmental Services Schedule provides contract support for the establishment and/or operation of waste management and/or recycling systems. Services include waste collection, reuse assessments, inventory, data destruction, and inventory transfer and/or disposal after compliance with GSA Office of Personal Property Management requirements.

GSA's Computers for Learning (CFL) Program
The CFL program assists government agencies and the private sector with the donation of surplus computers and related equipment to schools. The program helps federal agencies meet the requirements of Executive Order 12999, Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for All Children in the Next Century.

National Center for Electronics Recycling (NCER)
The NCER is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the development and enhancement of a national infrastructure for the recycling of used electronics in the U.S.

The Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a nonprofit group of consumers, businesses, and conservation organizations promoting the development, deployment, and adoption of smart technologies that can both improve the efficiency of a computer's power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when the computer is in an inactive state.

Cornell University Sustainable Computing Initiative
This initiative is designed to help Cornell University partner to build sustainability into its IT environment. The website includes a Sustainable Computing Guide, other resources, and case studies.

GreenBiz: Computing and IT
GreenBiz: Computing and IT is a resource center for environmentally responsible computing developed by Greener World Media, Inc.

Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), GreenerGadgets
The CEA is a trade association that promotes growth in the consumer technology industry. CEA's GreenerGadgets website provides information on green purchasing, reuse and recycling of electronics.

The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) - Electronics
PSI works with federal, state, and local governments to improve product stewardship practices through legislation, policy development, outreach, and education.

Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition (SVTC)
STVC promotes improvements to the electronics lifecycle to protect human health and the environment.
